The beginning images of individual items caught me off guard at first but added much more personalization to the video. Even though they were images of random items to me I knew that they're were much more deeper than they appear. The first two items seem to be food related, a thing that can be comforting to anyone no matter how far away they may be. The salted mackerel is nothing popular in America so it is my guess that it is a food that connects Robyn L to her heritage. The bustling image of a city (Chinatown was my initial thought) connects viewers to a nontraditional American idea of home. Through the readings in I-Hotel the image of an ideal American dream is very different from the family home in suburbia. Home in America is what ever you want it to be. It can be personal items and food that give you a sense of self and identity. After all, as we learn in I-Hotel, one's heritage defines and shapes you throughout your life and gives you an identity that sticks with you.
