I-Hotel: Politics
The quotes by Imelda Marcos and the deceased former president of the Republic of the Philippines added to what was being told about Ben and Olivia. In the second little section of the chapter it is described the coincidence between the wedding and Ferdinand Marcos. At first it took some time to grasp the snippets at the ending of each section with them sounding so formal and missing some lines. It was like there were two stories running at the same time. One was of Olivia and Ben what happened to prepare for the wedding and what happened during and after. The second was the broken up proclamation of Marcos. One part stuck out in the wedding storyline that seemed to go along with the Marcos sections. On page 350, section 12.2 seemed to say a lot with the last line “all power to the people!”. At the same time some things said did fly over my head due to little background knowledge on the subject. The use of using quotes from Imelda Marcos for the entirety of the chapter was definitely different. Some of the quotes were really interesting, I laughed out loud on the quote on the middle of page 355. I tried to find some connection between the quotes that were chosen from Imelda Marcos and what was going on in the section, or the previous section. Perhaps I was looking too hard because I could find none. My main task was trying to figure out why the quotes were chosen and placed where they were because of the fact that they were so intriguing (along with the bits of politics at the end of each section).

I also was wondering, while reading, as to what the connections were between the quotes and the story. At times I wondered if the quotes were supposed to be for humor or for historical background. Either way, some of the quotes were rather funny to me whether that was the purpose of them or not.
